Stamp Duty & Legal Fees
Estimate your Malaysia transaction costs
Covers Memorandum of Transfer (MOT) stamp duty, loan agreement stamp duty (if applicable), and legal fees on a standard purchase with no first-time-buyer exemption.
Total Estimated Transaction Costs
RM 16,250
excluding first-time buyer exemptions
First-time buyer exemptions: The government periodically grants full or partial stamp duty exemptions for first-time buyers under a price ceiling, announced through the annual Budget. These exemptions are not modelled here — confirm current status with your solicitor before signing a sale and purchase agreement.
Foreign buyers: Foreign nationals purchasing in Malaysia must obtain state government approval and meet minimum purchase price thresholds (which vary by state). These approvals don’t change the stamp duty rate but are a prerequisite for the transfer. Obtain advice from a licensed solicitor before making an offer.
Not included: Valuation fees, search fees, disbursements, Real Property Gains Tax (if applicable on resale), or developer admin fees for new launches. Ask your solicitor for a full cost estimate.
